Consent Education Team Volunteer

Role contact

About this role

Education sub-team volunteers help interpret event consent policy and relay them in an understandable and easily digestible format often in short form text posts, images and videos.

The Education sub-team can create their own material or source anything suitable from other burns or burn adjacent communities.

A poster collection is to be maintained with posters being laminated, placed and collected pre- and post-event respectively.

Training sub-team volunteers help provide consent information to theme camps and all other participants through training sessions and workshops delivered online in advance or in person during the event.

The primary aim for the Consent Education Training sub-team is to create a 30 minute training package for theme camp consent liaisons to be delivered online before Burning Nest. Through this training the consent liaisons will understand the basic principles of consent (especially targeted to the burner environment), how the liaisons can support their camp with consent issues, how to escalate and request support from the Consent Team and the event as a whole.

Outreach sub-team volunteers are part of a new interactive and immersive consent education outreach programme. Understanding that people learn in different ways and don't always want to attend a workshop, the Consent Education Outreach team are responsible for creating a fun and interactive consent game that can be delivered on site for a few hours each day.

There are a number of examples of consent games from the sex positive community and these can be replicated (with permission) or a completely new idea can be devised.

The game must be inclusive, optional to participants, and ideally non-static (although the idea of using different shelters and spaces on different days would be acceptable).

Required skills

Consent Education volunteers are expected to have knowledge of consent topics or the ability to conduct broad research on the area.

Volunteers should be strong communicators through written, visual or in-person interactions (depending upon the specific role chosen).

Additional information

The overall Consent Education Team Lead is Triz.

All Consent Team volunteers are welcome to join Consent Camp at Burning Nest 2025. Not a theme camp but a shared space with a communal sheltered social area, hot water shower, hammocks and kitchen. This is not an open space but one for Consent Team members to relax and socialise with each other and invited guests.
