Advice Processes and Ways of Working

By Community, Volunteering

Hey Nestlings!

As I assume you are all aware of the sad news that Burning Nest 2020 won’t be happening. I know this is devastating for a lot of members in our community but with the state of the world today it was the most sensible way forward!

But, work for Nest is still afoot! There are some exciting changes coming and we are looking for people who want to get involved and help make it happen! Burning Nest is co-created through the principle of Consensual Do-ocracy in conjunction with the 11 principles taken from Burning Man and extended with Each One Teach Oone

There are 2 big changes that we are currently working on to help enable us to co create through Consensual Do-ocracy! One is the Advice Process and the other is a new Circle (used to be teams) currently called WOW (Ways of Working) but we are open to other names so if you have some ideas we’d love to hear them!

Some of the goals for the changes are:

  • Enable Decentralization
  • Increase Transparency
  • Work smarter not harder
  • Reduce Burnout

The Advice Process is a way to collect sufficient information and engage those affected plus put it out to the wider community to reach better decisions. This is a powerful tools to help support all of the goals. It is new to Nest but exists in similar form in some other burns such as Borderlands and Kiez Burn.

The WOW Circle will look at how we work together and what we use to do it to support the Goals. This will cover things like what tools we use, processes we need to help, where we need structure and what they are responsible for and how they interact (board, circles, community etc). We are looking for a range of people with different skills to get directly involved and will also be creating a lot of Advice Processes to get feedback from the Community. If you are keen to get involved fill out this form: https://airtable.com/shrsF6kzfPoC3SdMw

Also keep an eye on Facebook, our website and email newsletters for some other Nest related things that will be happening in the near future!

Join us at Build and Strike!

By Nest 2020, Volunteering

The Build and Strike teams are the handy-dandy do-it-yourself stars of each Burning Nest. They arrive before everyone else and help create our paradise, and leave after everyone has finished partying, taking the decorations down and turning the lights off.

There's something special about these teams, and the sense of camaraderie shared by everyone is palpable. Are you good with a saw, a drill or planning decor in a large space? Do you yearn to express your inner artist through the medium of string lighting? Or do you want to provide for people who have been grafting all day, by feeding and watering them lovingly?

If any of this sounds like fun, and you are able to either arrive before the event, or stay after it's finished (or both!), take a gander at our form, and sign up to help!

There are a couple of slightly more responsibility-heavy roles to fill too:

- ON-SITE kitchen co-ordinator for build and/or strike
- Strike Co-ordinator

If you're planning on just turning up, please let us know so we can feed you! x

This could be you!

Introducing the Edge of Chaos Team

By Nest 2020, Volunteering

You may have heard your fellow nestlings talking about the Edge of Chaos team. But what is it, and what do they do?

Edge of Chaos (or EOC) are the Nestlings who ensure that our great plans, for structures, activities or workshops, are safe and comply with local rules. While the Burn is a great opportunity to do new and exciting things, we still have to operate in the default world - and as such, EOC ensure we're kept safe and sound.

If this sounds like something you might like to join in with, lucky for you! The EOC are currently looking for new volunteers! Check out this document for more in-depth details, and email vols@burningnest.co.uk to sign up, or for more information!

Volunteering for 2020!

By Nest 2020, Volunteering

Hello Lovelies,

This is your friendly Department of Nepotism and Coercion (formerly known as DPW), the spread sheeting has begun and we have some requests to put to the community and a shiny new sign up form for you to volunteer on the build and strike teams.

TOOLS YOU SAY?

This year we would love to start building a stock of tools that will be kept and maintained by the DNC. If you have any tools that you no longer need and would be willing to donate to Nest let us know! dnc@burningnest.co.uk

WORK VEHICLE NEEDED

We will need the use of a 4x4 vehicle during build, event time and strike (18/05/20 - 3/06/20). In the past this vehicle had been rented, but we thought it would be worth reaching out to you all to see if there’s an opportunity to keep it in the community. The vehicle will be used to transport tools, materials and people and driven somewhat offroad, so only get in touch if this doesn’t strike fear into your vehicles heart.

VOLUNTEERING

We will be looking for people to volunteer in lots of different capacities for both build and strike. If you would like to volunteer to be on the build or strike team please fill in this form

If you have a particular interest in co-ordinating a team or any special skills that you think would suit a role with a little more responsibility than wielding a hammer please get in touch. dnc@burningnest.co.uk

Vacant Roles:

-Lighting Link (responsible for co-ordinating placement of lighting)

-Strike Link (responsible for co-ordinating strike team)

-Signage Link (responsible for co-ordinating all site signage)

Thank You,

DNC x
