Theme Camps

Theme Camps at Burning Nest 2026: Not Actual Size

Theme camps are participant-run camps that create an interactive space for others: a bar, a lounge, a game zone, a workshop hub, a mini venue, a tea shrine, a cuddle dojo… you get the idea.

Registrations close Sunday 15th March

New camps for 2026!

Bangers & Mash

Trekking the glade for salvation, our potato pilgrimage halted – a field of melted butter blobs ensnaring us. Voices from the deep yellow bade us: “construct a masher, a shrine to the great queer potato”. It said, “Go forth, entertain, and feed the masses”. Day turned to night. Crowds gathered. The message rang out: PLAY BANGERS & SERVE MASH!

Come be potatoes with us as at Bangers and Mash sunset(ish) onwards Tuesday to Saturday to eat some mash and dance and play only to songs you know the lyrics to 😊 Got a performance? Got an instrument? Anything you wanna put on display? All are welcome!! Just tap our ‘DJs’ or vibe check crew on the shoulder.

Camp size? 11-20

Accepting new members? No

Space for others to use? ABSOLUTELY YES. In the night time/sunset time, anything that compliments the bangers. When running this at Afrikaburn we’ve had people rock up with trombones, cabaret performers start a performance to Pink Pony Club, Singers jump up to sing Amy winehouse. That’s spontaneous, but we also love planned collaborations. As a food-provider camp at Afrikaburn we had multiple other food-gifting camps come at the same time for ‘Friday Food Hall’ at midnight Saturday, we’ve had daytime genre/artist-specific sets from guest ‘DJs’, and people enjoying our music space with crafting in the day. Anything in the day from others who need access to a sound system with low-supervision requirements from the camp. Contact Kiki Tetley at k.tetley92@gmail.com, or just approach any potato person during Burn.

Big Thing Little String

Are you at the end of your tether? Is your time all tied up and your existence in knots? Then follow the line to Big Thing, Little String, where small strands occasionally lead to surprisingly big things.

Within this gently tangled corner you’ll find a place to pause, perch, coil up, and watch the festival spin by. Curious wanderers, late-night philosophers, and those who simply need somewhere soft to land are all welcome to drift through.

If you listen carefully you may hear the quiet hum of questionable ideas, creative mischief, and the occasional moment of unexpected interconnectedness.

There will be rope, silliness, workshops, and places to sprawl.
Some workshops will be 18+.
Satellite spinning area suitable for all ages — bring and borrow spinning props.

Translation: Big Thing Little String — camp of rope, spinning, comfort and chaos.

Buildy McBuildface

Welcome to Buildy McBuildface — a small-but-mighty theme camp at Burning Nest dedicated to building things, skills, confidence, community, and occasionally wildly unnecessary siege engines.

We are a loose-knit collective of cheerful ne’er-do-wells who believe that if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing with tools, enthusiasm, and only moderate adult supervision.

== What Do We Actually Do? ==

1. The Tool Library
Need a drill? A saw? A thing that makes another thing happen? We bring a generous pile of tools for communal use. Borrow boldly. Return vaguely cleaner.

2. The Big Ridiculous Build
Each year we construct something large, interactive, and slightly concerning. Previous triumphs include:

— 2023: A Climbing Wall of Sex Toys
— 2022: Water Balloon Trebuchets
— 2024: A 12-Person Sauna
— 2025: The Wheel of Death
— 2026???? A mystery. Probably structurally “technically functional.”

3. Skill Shares & Shenanigans
From welding to wand-making, knot-tying to plug-rewiring, baraoke to public humiliation pillories — if you can teach it, demo it, or accidentally invent it, we’re in. We value practical skills, interpersonal skills, absurd skills, and the sacred art of trying anyway.

4. Radical Inclusion, Zero Mansplaining
We welcome humans of all genders, orientations, neuro-spiciness levels, and skill sets (hammers or ham sandwiches). Patronising behaviour is banned unless explicitly booked in advance.

== Vibe ==
* Small camp (around 30 humans). * High silliness. * High patience. * High immediacy.

* Camp motto: “It’s technically functional — we’ll fix it tomorrow.”

If you’d like to build something — physically, socially, emotionally, questionably — come join us.

We’ll fix it tomorrow.

We will be hosting workshops during the daytime so check the WWW or our notice board for more information. As always, we work hard to ensure a safe and inclusive space for visitors wanting to engage in consensual play and intimacy, especially for members of the LGBTQIA+ & neurospicy communities. Flim Flam

Twitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a small but mighty intergalactic outpost where cosmic exploration meets the wonderfully eccentric world of birdwatching. Inspired by the quirky brilliance of Bill Oddie and the spirit of absurd sci-fi adventure, our camp reimagines twitching as an astral pursuit.

At the heart of our space sits a giant, squishy nest, a tactile, welcoming centrepiece that pulses gently with rhythm and light, drawing in curious travellers from across the glade. Around it, you’ll find a mini bar serving “twitcher fuel,” a decorative bird cage for the more domesticated species among us, and plenty of room to flap, strut, and spiral around the dance floor.

Expect wax jackets, binoculars, alien plumage, and spontaneous outbreaks of bird call mimicry.

The Flamin’ Merkin

The Flamin’ Merkin has been improving the Margarita-to-dust ratio since 2013. We create a space** where the more interaction and silliness – and tequila – the better! Traditionally, we gift large quantities of top-quality Margaritas during our traditional happy hour* every day, and the rest of the time serve assorted boozeyness (bring a bottle to donate if you’d like), philosophical conversation, serious ridiculousness and new friends***.

Pop on over for some kick-ass tunes, top quality drinks, seriously silly shenanigans and as much snark as you can throw at us whilst we dance together under the Merkin sails.

*tends to never be just the hour…
**beware of surprise takeovers!!
